Classic French Toast Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 slices thick bread (brioche, challah, or white bread)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for cooking)
  • Maple syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh berries for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter:
    In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  2. Soak the Bread:
    Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, letting it soak for 15–20 seconds per side so it absorbs the liquid but doesn’t get too soggy.
  3. Cook the French Toast:
    Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the soaked bread slices and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Serve:
    Serve warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, and fresh berries as desired.
